Nayo from DiamondShotgun Interview

With roots in the Land of the Rising Sun, DiamondShotgun is a unique entity in music, mixing many different genres into one blend that screams for attention. Read on to learn about the duo's history, the goals, and what language is harder to perform in...

How did this project come to be?

DiamondShotgun has a long history. We originally started out as a dj crew back in Tokyo,
Japan in March of 2010. Then when I moved back to America I decided to focus more on
creating music and kept the name. The current lineup came about after a few minor member
changes later when I added my high school friend Marcus on decks, turntables, and backing
vocals for live shows.

What was the moment that made you think "this is it right here", the defining moment
that convinced you this was for real?

It still hasn’t happened yet. Like every month I think, “Wow, we’re so much farther ahead
than we were this time last month.” But I feel as if that defining moment of it being real
is just around the bend. *Laughs* Perhaps it will be when Marc and I can finally quit our
restaurant jobs.

What's your end goal for music? As in, what do you envision yourself getting out of
music when all is said and done?

My end goal for music is to inspire as many people as I can. As black person from America,
I want to let other black people know that there are other ways that you can define yourself
as opposed to the stereotypes that are abundant in the media and in our culture. And as far
as everyone else is concerned, I want people to be inspired to use their creativity to live their
lives to the fullest. So when all is said and done, I’d like be an inspiration to people and also
use music as a personal means to see more of the world and the people that inhabit it via
touring.

Dream tour: who would you love to share a stage with?

Right now I personally, would love to tour with Kerli. Everything about her screams
creativity and sincerity, from the way she creates, what she creates, to how she interacts with
her fans. I honestly think her and DiamondShotgun are two artists with concepts on similar
wavelengths. We’re like two countries on the same continent. *Laughs* “We’re Africa.”

I’d also like to tour with Miyavi, Swingfly, Lm.C, Bring Me The Horizon, and Chicosci
sometime down the road in the near future.

What are your 3 main influences on your sound?

Emotionally; Life, Loneliness, Love/Lust
Musically; (Instrumentally) Screamo, Big Beat, Trance
Vocally; Jamir Garcia Of The Band Slapshock (Screaming/ Rapping/ Singing)
Verbal From M-Flo ( Bilingual Rhymes)
Ville Valo From HIM (Singing)

What does the future hold for the project?

Marcus and I want to take DiamondShotgun as far as we can. We want this for life.
So the future for DiamonadShotgun holds sincere music with sincere imagery and creativity
surrounding it from conception to presentation and everything related to it in between.

Personally we want to inspire and reach as many people around the world with the philosophy and music of Fevercore as much as humanly possible in this lifetime.
